I have to confess that among other things...I can name very few ,without which I cannot live. If there are three hobbies that will never leave me alone in this life (atleast till my memory allows ) they are Movies, books and Harry potter :)
Potter because it meant I was reading something that absolutely got me involved...it wasn't part of the syllabi in school or wasn't recommended by anyone. It was just a rage back then and I had chanced upon the first copy and absolutely loveeed it . The only other writer that I had read so attentively before my Potter experience was ENID BLYTON...
How I will just share :
Like mom often says that the best things that happen to me - are by accident and are definately not my choice . (Leme mention she still believes my husband is too a good a choice ...I couldn't have made it ...well umm...wotever that could mean ;)
But honestly Enid Blyton's entry into my life was seriously accidental ...
Anyways, coming back to the reason I got into reading...or for that matter I picked up an ENID BLYTON was a strange one. I remember back in the 90s...accompanying my dad every Sunday to his car cleaning program was a ritual...this was when he would wash his beloved Maruti 800 (that will not be sold to any goddamned buyer - ever) and I would stand there blabbering whatever came to my mind .
Most of all it meant exclusive time with daddy , praising myself and complaining about my big brother :)
So, on one of such Sundays I found a book lying by a bush ...covered in mud and looking a tad bit old. Honestly, i remember it was the cover that fascinated me sooo much that I grabbed it . I remember walking around asking all if it belonged to anyone, I was a quite a popular kid back then (thanks to my verbal abilties...I could speak some 1050 words in a minute...so almost everyone knew me in the neighbourhood)
Having looked for an owner almost all around ...after a while I decided to keep it to myself. Its a decision I now cherish :) for at that age...there isn't a better author I couldve managed to read .Blyton can easily be credited for two things in my life
1) Love for reading
2) Recognising the ENGLISH VOWELS
It was a pista green ...hard cover copy that was titled 'STORIES FOR YOU' with some 14-15 stories ...each of them short and crisp and I absolutely loved them :) But the one that stayed wimme was called 'The Vowel dolls'...where a small girl to remember her vowels names her five dolls :
Anna
Enid
Iris
Olaf and Unay (A.E.I.O.U)
I think thus began my connect and journey with reading ...and with voracious readers around me Ive had a good life of reading the best of works around .
P.S. This is exactly the cover that caught my attention ... :) Great to have found it online !
